Vertiv is a world leader in critical digital infrastructure powering data centres, communications networks and industrial operations worldwide. At our Campsie facility we design and manufacture type-tested Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear assemblies.

As Electrical Design Engineer (MV) you’ll coach the team responsible for electrical and mechanical CAD deliverables for MV switchgear. You’ll combine technical know-how with people and process leadership to deliver accurate engineering drawings, robust design libraries, efficient CAD workflows and close collaboration with Project Management, Engineering, Production & Test teams. This is a hybrid role based at Campsie with occasional on-site presence required for design reviews, factory testing and supplier visits.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coach and develop the CAD team (electrical / mechanical CAD engineers) to deliver high-quality design documentation on time.
  • Drive continuous improvement in CAD productivity and quality (automation, macros, scripting, template improvements, reuse).
  • Help to define & enforce CAD standards, templates, naming conventions, drawing borders (ISO/IEC style), symbol libraries and best practices.
  • Produce and approve engineering drawing packages (schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, terminal plans, bill of materials) that meet technical, regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Manage resource planning and prioritisation of CAD work and liaise with department managers on workload and recruitment.
  • Investigate drawing non-conformances and design issues; identify root-causes and corrective actions.
  • Create and maintain training materials and run training sessions for new tools, templates and processes.
  • Monitor key CAD KPIs and report on delivery, quality and continuous improvement metrics.
  • Collaborate with electrical design, mechanical design, production, test & quality to ensure drawings are suitable for manufacturing/testing. Attend production review meetings.
  • Support Factory and Site Acceptance Tests (FAT/SAT) by providing drawings, wiring lists and documentation.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree Level - BEng (Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent vocational qualification or experience in a similar role.
  • Significant hands-on experience in CAD for electrical/mechanical products, ideally with medium voltage switchgear or power distribution products.
  • Proven experience managing a CAD team, processes and documentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical CAD tools (experience with SEE Electrical and/or AutoCAD Electrical strongly preferred) and mechanical CAD (SolidWorks/Inventor or similar).
  • Practical understanding of manufacturing and test processes in an electromechanical environment.
  • Excellent CAD drafting standards knowledge (ISO/IEC drawing conventions, title blocks, revision control).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience with PDM/PLM systems (SolidWorks PDM, Teamcenter, Windchill).
