The Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) is responsible for ensuring that all welding activities within the fabrication department are planned, executed, monitored, and documented in compliance with EN 1090 and related welding standards. The role ensures product conformity, traceability, quality, and continuous improvement of welding processes across the business.
Key Responsibilities- Welding Coordination & Compliance
- Act as the designated Responsible Welding Coordinator in accordance with EN 1090 requirements.
- Ensure all welding activities comply with:
- EN 1090
- EN ISO 3834
- Relevant EN ISO welding standards (e.g. EN ISO 15614, EN ISO 9606).
- Maintain welding compliance for audits, certifications, and notified body inspections.
- Welding Procedures & Documentation
- Develop, review, approve, and control:
- Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
- Welding Procedure Qualification Records (WPQR)
- Welder Qualification Records (WQRs)
- Ensure welding documentation is current, accurate, and readily available on the shop floor.
- Maintain welding traceability in line with execution class (EXC requirements).
- Personnel & Training
- Ensure welders are appropriately qualified and approved for assigned tasks.
- Identify training needs and coordinate welder qualifications, renewals, and upskilling.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to welders and supervisors.
- Production Support & Technical Oversight
- Provide technical welding support to fabrication, production, and QA teams.
- Participate in project reviews, method statements, and fabrication planning.
- Support resolution of welding non-conformances, repairs, and corrective actions.
- Quality, Inspection & Continuous Improvement
- Liaise with QA/QC personnel, inspectors, and third-party auditors.
- Support inspection and testing activities including VT, NDT, and final inspections.
- Drive continuous improvement in welding quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure welding activities are carried out safely and in accordance with company H&S procedures.
- Promote best practice related to welding safety, fumes, and environmental controls.
- Essential
- Experience working across multiple execution classes (EXC1-EXC3).
- Familiarity with structural steel fabrication for construction or industrial projects.
- Strong working knowledge of EN 1090 and EN ISO 3834.
- Proven experience in a fabrication or structural steel environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Desirable
- Recognized welding qualification such as: IWS / IWT / IWE or equivalent.
- Experience supporting third-party audits and notified body assessments.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation control.
- Clear communication skills across shop floor and management levels.
- Problem-solving mindset with a practical approach to fabrication challenges.
- Ability to work independently while supporting wider team objectives.
