As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an R&D / Product Development Engineer to join our engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the development of innovative busbar trunking solutions, taking products from concept through design, validation and launch.
You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Marketing and Sales to develop market-leading products that meet customer needs, comply with international standards and deliver real value.
What you'll be doing
- Design and develop new products and enhancements for our busbar trunking portfolio.
- Define product specifications, features and functionality while ensuring compliance with relevant safety and regulatory standards.
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
- Design products in accordance with international standards including IEC 61439 and UL857.
- Build and evaluate prototypes to validate product performance and design concepts.
- Conduct Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and support product risk assessments.
- Work closely with suppliers to source components and materials for new product development.
- Support the New Product Development Introduction (NPDI) process and maintain accurate engineering documentation.
- Manage engineering changes for existing products through the Engineering Change process.
- Organise and maintain engineering drawings and documentation within PLM systems.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Manufacturing, Sales and Marketing teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Keep up to date with emerging technologies, manufacturing methods and industry trends to drive continuous product innovation.
What we're looking for
You'll be a proactive engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges and working collaboratively to develop high-quality products.
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Design, Design Technology or a related discipline.
- 3+ years' experience in product design or mechanical design within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong CAD skills using Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modelling software.
- Experience producing detailed engineering drawings, including GD&T, first and third angle projection.
- Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
Desirable
- Experience or knowledge in any of the following would be an advantage: Power distribution products or the data centre industry.
- Design of sheet metal fabrications, welded assemblies and plastic moulded components.
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Environment (DFE).
- Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Microsoft Office, Smartsheet and other engineering/business applications.
