Vertical Recruitment are working with an established building services consultancy seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team. This is a senior-level role offering the opportunity to take ownership of mechanical design delivery across a wide range of building services projects, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams from concept through to completion. The position suits an engineer who enjoys technical detail, problem solving, client interaction and taking responsibility for delivering well-coordinated, practical engineering solutions. There is a clear pathway towards Principal Engineer and Associate level for the right individual.
Working Arrangements - This is a mostly remote role, with flexibility to work from home. Attendance will be required for client meetings, internal collaboration sessions and site visits where necessary. Candidates must be based within a commutable distance of Manchester.
You will act as the mechanical technical lead across a variety of building services projects, ensuring high-quality design delivery and coordination throughout all project stages.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing design delivery from early concept through to completion
- Acting as technical lead for mechanical engineering input
- Producing calculations, reports, specifications and technical documentation
- Liaising directly with clients, design teams and external consultants
- Coordinating with electrical engineers and CAD/Revit technicians
- Ensuring design quality, programme, budget and commercial requirements are met
- Supporting fee proposals, bids and client presentations where required
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers, graduates and apprentices
- Contributing to technical standards, quality processes and continuous improvement
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong experience in mechanical building services design
- Good understanding of UK regulations, standards and industry guidance
- Ability to apply engineering judgement and practical problem solving
- Experience managing project deliverables and client expectations
- Strong communication skills with a collaborative approach
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of project constraints
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
- Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services
- Consultancy background
- Experience across sectors such as healthcare, education or commercial
- Exposure to Revit, AutoCAD or similar design software
- Chartered or working towards chartership with CIBSE or similar
