Vertical Recruitment is working with a leading international engineering consultancy to appoint a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their growing Manchester team. This is an opportunity to play a key role in the design and delivery of some of the most complex and technically demanding projects in the built environment. Working within a highly respected mission critical team, you will lead electrical design across major programmes while helping to develop engineers and shape technical standards across the business.
As a Principal Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical engineering delivery across large-scale projects from concept through to completion. You will provide technical leadership, work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the successful delivery of high-performance infrastructure where resilience, reliability and efficiency are paramount. While data centre experience would be highly advantageous, we are also keen to speak with candidates who have delivered projects within other complex and mission critical environments such as healthcare, pharmaceutical, defence, advanced manufacturing or major infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Leadership
- Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services systems across complex projects
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams throughout all design stages
- Ensure high standards of quality, compliance and technical excellence
- Review and approve engineering designs and technical documentation
- Project Delivery
- Manage mechanical engineering packages from concept through to completion
- Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary design teams
- Support project planning, programme delivery and resource management
- Contribute to the successful delivery of projects within budget and programme constraints
- Client Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders
- Represent the electrical discipline during client meetings and technical workshops
- Provide practical and commercially aware engineering solutions
- Support business development activities where appropriate
- Team Development
- Mentor and support engineers at all levels
- Share technical knowledge and best practice across the wider team
- Assist with developing future technical leaders within the business
- Promote a collaborative and supportive working environment
