Structural Engineer


Vertical Recruitment are working closely with an established Civil and Structural Engineering consultancy who are looking to appoint a Structural Engineer to join their growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Structural Engineer with 3 to 5 years' experience who is looking to take the next step in their career, work on a varied portfolio of technically interesting projects and develop within a collaborative engineering environment.

The consultancy delivers structural engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors including residential, commercial, student accommodation, leisure, retail and industrial developments. Their project portfolio includes large-scale residential schemes, multi-storey apartment developments, office buildings, hotel and leisure projects, and complex refurbishment works.


The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on projects involving a variety of structural materials and construction methods including steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber, gaining exposure to both new-build and refurbishment schemes from concept through to completion.


As a Structural Engineer, you will be involved in the design and delivery of a diverse range of building structures projects, working closely with experienced engineers, clients, architects and wider design teams.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing structural designs, calculations and technical reports
  • Designing building structures across a range of sectors including residential, commercial, leisure and industrial
  • Working with materials including steel, concrete, masonry and timber
  • Supporting projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design and construction
  • Preparing drawings, specifications and technical documentation
  • Liaising with clients, architects, contractors and project stakeholders
  • Coordinating designs with other engineering disciplines
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and project requirements
  • Supporting junior engineers and contributing to the wider team


About You

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 3 to 5 years' experience within a structural engineering consultancy
  • Experience working on building structures projects
  • Strong understanding of structural design principles and construction methods
  • Experience using structural design software such as TEDDS, Tekla, Robot, ETABS or similar
  • Good knowledge of UK design standards and building regulations
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a design team
  • Working towards Chartership or keen to continue professional development
