The Opportunity
Our client, a well-established and forward-thinking building services consultancy, is looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across sectors including commercial, high-rise residential, new build schools with the DfE framework, and high profile mixed-use developments. You will be involved in the full project lifecycle, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, sustainable mechanical design solutions within a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical building services systems, including HVAC, public health, and domestic water services
- Produce detailed calculations, specifications, and technical drawings
- Undertake heat loss/gain calculations, ventilation design, and plant sizing
- Ensure designs comply with UK standards and regulations (e.g., CIBSE, Building Regulations)
- Work closely with electrical engineers, architects, and project teams
- Attend client and design team meetings
- Carry out site surveys and inspections
- Support project delivery to agreed timelines and budgets
About You
- Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
- Proven experience in mechanical design within building services
- Strong knowledge of HVAC and associated systems
- Familiar with UK regulations and industry standards (CIBSE, Part L, etc.)
- Proficient in software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and design tools (e.g., IES VE, Hevacomp)
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage workload across multiple projects
Desirable
- Working towards or holding professional accreditation (IEng/CEng)
- Experience within a consultancy environment
- Knowledge of low-carbon and sustainable design (e.g., heat pumps, net zero strategies)
- Experience with BIM processes
