An established specialist engineering consultancy is looking for a Structural Engineer to join its team, working on the design, assessment and performance of industrial concrete floors. You’ll work on technically varied projects across the UK and internationally, for clients including Amazon, major warehouse operators, Jaguar Land Rover, Costco and businesses in the robotics sector. The role combines structural design, client contact, site work and forensic investigation.

You’ll lead and contribute to the technical delivery of concrete flooring projects, from design and analysis through to site monitoring and investigation. Responsibilities include:

  • Designing concrete slabs, foundations and associated structures for industrial facilities.
  • Assessing floors under complex loading, including heavy racking, storage, automation and materials handling systems.
  • Designing and assessing slab reinforcement, steel fibre reinforcement, piled floors and ground-bearing floors.
  • Developing and reviewing structural calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) models.
  • Producing and reviewing drawings using Tekla and CAD, and preparing specifications and technical reports.
  • Writing specifications for major clients and projects across the UK.
  • Carrying out technical reviews of third-party designs and recommending practical solutions.
  • Supporting site monitoring and inspections, including assessing whether construction work meets the required design and performance standards.
  • Investigating floor problems such as cracking, diagnosing likely causes and preparing forensic reports.
  • Managing projects, coordinating technical deliverables and keeping clients and project teams informed.
  • Supporting junior engineers and contributing to the development of the consultancy’s technical services and standards.

You’ll receive support to develop specialist knowledge of industrial flooring, including TR34, the industry guide to concrete industrial ground floors. Previous flooring experience is useful but not essential.

About you:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant experience in structural engineering, ideally within a consultancy.
  • Strong understanding of structural design principles and concrete structures.
  • Experience with structural analysis and FEA.
  • Proficiency in Tekla and CAD, or the ability and willingness to use them as part of your design work.
  • Confident managing projects and communicating with clients, contractors and design teams.
  • Practical judgement and an analytical approach to solving technical problems.
  • Comfortable taking responsibility for technical work and attending site when required.

Experience in industrial flooring, ground-bearing slabs or specialist foundation design would be an advantage but not essential.

What’s on offer:

  • Salary of £50,000–£55,000, depending on experience.
  • Support for professional development and chartership.
  • Annual professional membership fees paid.
  • Company pension.
  • Varied projects across industrial sectors, with opportunities for international travel.
  • Increasing technical and project responsibility.
  • The chance to contribute to the continued growth of the consultancy.
