About Us: Vertical Recruitment is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Structural Fire Engineer to join a dynamic Fire Engineering team. With offices in London, Edinburgh, Bath, and Manchester, we offer an exciting opportunity for a talented professional to contribute to exciting and complex building projects.
Key Duties: As a Senior Structural Fire Engineer, you will:
- Collaborate with structural engineers on intricate and challenging buildings to ensure life safety and optimize protection.
- Provide input to design aspirations, functionality, and architectural form.
- Project manage small to medium structural fire engineering projects.
- Assume responsibility for the financial performance of small to medium-scale projects.
- Work with Associates and Associate Directors to prepare fee proposals and contribute to work-winning activities.
- Develop, with support, into a lead structural fire engineer on small to medium-scale projects.
- Manage client care and general consultancy on both small- and large-scale projects.
- Mentor junior engineers on their career path.
- Actively promote the department and engage in the development of group strategy.
Your Skills and Experience:
- Master's degree or higher in Structural Engineering or Structural Fire Engineering.
- Chartered engineer status or close to achieving it.
- Experience in an engineering consultancy environment.
- Experience in managing small to medium-scale structural or structural fire engineering projects.
- Experience in writing and reviewing performance-based engineering reports.
- Excellent consultancy skills, strong communication abilities, and experience in dealing with complex situations, negotiation, and understanding the differing needs of clients and stakeholder groups.
- Confident, proactive character, able to take the lead in challenging situations and guide less experienced engineers.
Advantageous Exposure:
- Experience in designing and assessing current and historic structures at ambient temperatures and in fire.
- Experience in undertaking and supervising fire and heat transfer assessments followed by structural modeling at elevated temperatures.
- Experience in using and checking structural fire engineering FEM packages like SAFIR, VULCAN, or similar.
- Experience in undertaking and supervising different forms of fire modeling, including but not limited to natural fires, localized fires, and CFD.
