Our Mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), ‘zero emissions’ aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.

We won’t realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to ‘redefine’ aerospace best practices.

We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.

What To Expect

In this role, you’ll be the go-to technical lead for our Battery Development Centre — a state-of-the-art facility supporting the future of electric flight. You’ll take ownership of the site’s smooth operation, from managing fit-out projects and equipment installation to ensuring every system runs safely, efficiently, and reliably.

You’ll work closely with suppliers, engineers, and operational teams to maintain high standards across all equipment and infrastructure, while driving continuous improvement in safety, performance, and efficiency. This is a hands-on role where no two days will be the same — one day you might be commissioning new equipment, the next troubleshooting complex technical issues or leading upgrade projects.

It’s a challenging, varied position that offers the chance to make a tangible impact on a pioneering aerospace programme, while working in a collaborative, fast-paced, and purpose-driven environment.

What You\’ll Do

  • Lead the ongoing development of our newly established Battery Development Centre, overseeing fit-out work, equipment installation, supplier coordination, and system commissioning.
  • Act as the primary on-site contact for all facility, built-environment, and equipment-related matters.
  • Establish and maintain a safe working environment for all personnel, developing and implementing robust processes and controls.
  • Ensure all equipment is correctly calibrated, fully operational, and safe to use.
  • Manage all planned preventative and reactive maintenance activities, efficiently addressing corrective actions for the facility, equipment, and software systems.
  • Drive and deliver facility, equipment, and automation upgrades to meet evolving operational needs.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of all building and infrastructure aspects to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree or equivalent experience in an engineering or technical discipline.
  • Hands-on expertise with battery build and test equipment, including cyclers, environmental chambers, data acquisition systems, and test instrumentation.
  • Strong health and safety knowledge for battery operations.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Skilled in diagnosing and repairing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience in operating, maintaining, and calibrating battery test equipment.
  • 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations certification.
  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Desirable

  • Practical experience in battery operations and testing.
  • HV Authorised Person (HV AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) training.
  • Knowledge of controls and automation systems.
  • NEBOSH Health and Safety certification.
  • Project Management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, APM).

What can you expect from us?

We\’re on a mission. Where others see limits, we see opportunity, and we work at pace. Working at Vertical isn\’t your average role but for those seeking a challenge, a flexible, supportive organisation and an incredible team; working here is an opportunity to do the best work of your career.

Our approach promotes ingenuity and courage, while our environment builds success through diligence in safety and being open in the way we work. The only way we\’re going to assure the next chapter of aviation history is by working as a team, relentlessly, towards our goal.

Our Benefits

Our people matter – we\’re not going anywhere without them. Which is why our company benefits go beyond the essentials.

  • 26 days holiday, plus bank holiday
  • 5 extra days per year to buy (or sell)
