Our Mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The Valo, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take‑off and landing), ‘zero emissions’ aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky. We won’t realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed; instead, we want to ‘redefine’ aerospace best practices. We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals. Valo is targeting airliner‑level safety certification in 2028 ahead of entering service with our airline and operator customers.

- You will play a significant role in contributing to key control law design decisions.
- You will interface with cross‑functional teams, including flight dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, and avionics, to integrate control laws with aircraft systems whilst managing various stakeholder requirements to achieve key performance, safety, and certification objectives.
- You will lead on ensuring flight control law development adheres to aerospace standards such as SAE ARP4754, DO‑178 and DO‑331.
- You will play a key role in our certification efforts, including creation of certification artefacts and communication with relevant certification authorities.
- You will lead and mentor junior engineers in the development of control laws, fostering technical growth within the team and promoting knowledge exchange and establishing best practices within the Flight Control Laws team.
What You’ll Bring
- BSc, MSc or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science with significant experience within the aerospace domain.
- Expert knowledge of Control Theory (classical and modern) and excellent competency with MATLAB and Simulink.
- Significant experience with one or more aspects of aircraft flight control laws design, validation, verification.
- High motivation, curiosity, and confidence in your ability for critical thinking and robust decision making.
- Strong understanding of fixed‑wing and rotorcraft flight dynamics.
- Knowledge of software development and associated guidelines (SAE ARP4754, RTCA/EUROCAE DO‑178, DO‑331, etc.).
- Knowledge of aircraft certification regulations (CAA, FAA, EASA).
