With an established presence among major national retailers and a pipeline of strategic opportunities, we are seeking an experienced commercial leader to take ownership of their Sainsburys business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing best-in-class customer strategies, delivering revenue and profit targets, and ensuring the business maintains strong, collaborative partnerships with its customers. This role requires an individual who can operate effectively at both a strategic and operational level, influencing stakeholders across sales, marketing, supply chain, and finance functions.
Key Responsibilities include:- Own a portfolio of strategic retail customer relationships, with full accountability for revenue growth, profitability, and P&L performance.
- Lead the development and negotiation of market-leading Joint Business Plans (JBPs), incorporating pricing, promotional investment, distribution, category growth, availability, and in-store execution.
- Develop and maintain senior-level relationships with key customer stakeholders, identifying opportunities to accelerate growth and enhance long-term partnerships.
- Drive customer-specific growth strategies aligned with wider business objectives and commercial priorities.
- Collaborate closely with Supply Chain and Demand Planning teams to optimise product availability, forecast accuracy, and inventory management.
- Partner with Marketing teams to develop and execute effective trade marketing programmes across both physical and digital channels.
- Analyse market trends, customer performance, and competitor activity to identify opportunities for growth and continuous improvement.
- Lead, develop, and grow the sales function, building organisational capability and ensuring the team is equipped to deliver against business objectives.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and results.
- Proven experience managing major retail accounts within a recognised FMCG business working as a Buyer / Senior Buyer in the grocery / convenience sector.
- Demonstrable success delivering commercial growth, managing significant customer P&Ls, and achieving revenue and profit targets.
- Experience working within a large, complex, blue-chip organisation, with exposure to structured commercial planning and cross-functional stakeholder management.
- Strong track record of negotiating and delivering successful Joint Business Plans with major retail customers.
- Commercially astute with excellent analytical, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with effective day-to-day commercial execution.
- Experienced people leader with a passion for developing talent and building high-performing teams.
- Results-oriented, proactive, and driven, with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build credibility with stakeholders at all levels.
