Overview

As Senior Medical Director, you provide medical leadership for Nephrology, guiding scientific strategy and ensuring flawless medical plan execution across regions. You will partner with cross-functional teams to align medical aims with corporate goals, drive data generation, and support safe, appropriate use of Vertex medicines. You’ll lead a regional medical team, shape Life Cycle Management, and engage with HCPs, payers, and stakeholders to advance patient outcomes. This is an opportunity to influence strategy, foster external collaborations, and grow medical excellence in a global biotechnology setting.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliant medical activities across the region per Vertex policies and local regulations
  • Build Vertex reputation through balanced medical information and education for stakeholders
  • Lead regional medical strategy and execution via the designated disease-area medical plan
  • Drive data-generation initiatives and support RWD projects and LCM plans
  • Provide input on Global Development Programs to reflect local needs
  • Support Regional Medical Leads in regional strategy and plan development
  • Establish and track medical KPIs demonstrating business and patient impact
  • Develop and maintain high-level clinical knowledge across designated disease areas
  • Recruit, develop, and coach the regional medical team and close skill gaps
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Commercial, Market Access, HEOR, Regulatory) to ensure patient access and strategy alignment
  • Provide external presentations and education to enhance medical knowledge of pipeline and products
  • Ensure timely internal training for medical staff and XFT
  • Assure compliance of promotional and non-promotional materials with SOPs and regulations
  • Interpret data for in-development and marketed medicines for the region
  • Maintain up-to-date product and pipeline information per publications
  • Engage with external experts, societies, patient organizations, payers, and policymakers
  • Support investigator-initiated research and advisory board activities
  • Incorporate medical insights into regional and global strategy/tactics
  • Ensure compassionate use programs are implemented appropriately
  • Oversee epidemiology data gathering and data generation needs
  • Lead relationships with healthcare professionals to ensure scientific excellence and trust

Key requirements

  • Medical Degree (MD/DO) in Nephrology
  • Significant relevant experience with strong supervisory/management capabilities
  • Deep understanding of medical, regulatory, and commercial (payer) environments
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships in a matrixed environment and with external thought leaders
  • Track record of delivering high-quality results within timelines
