General Summary: The Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Senior Specialist will contribute to the effective management of the environmental, health and safety (EHS) program. The role will apply technical knowledge to identify areas for improvement and implement changes in a collaborative manner. The role requires good knowledge in multiple EHS disciplines (e.g. environmental and safety permitting, chemical safety, biosafety, radiation safety and other physical agents, laboratory safety, fire safety, ergonomics, facilities safety, sustainability, auditing and inspection).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports EHSS activities / programs at International HQ and International Offices.
- Maintains site EHS programs including record keeping.
- Develops and reviews site policies and procedures.
- Conducts internal audits and inspections.
- Completes and reviews risk assessments.
- Ensures accident investigations are undertaken by managers, providing support where necessary and ensuring improvement strategies are recommended and actioned.
- Provides EHS guidance and training to new team members.
- Attends Safety Committee meetings and other cross-functional team meetings.
- Manages regulatory licenses including environmental permits and regulated chemical licenses.
- Supports EHS sub-team projects.
- Assists with Global EHS programs and collaborations across sites.
- Participates in the site emergency response teams.
Knowledge, Skills and Education:
- Possesses expanded knowledge of federal, national and local environmental, health and safety regulations with a practical approach to implementation.
- Ability to explain complex safety information clearly and concisely.
- Proficient computer and documentation management skills.
- Ability to solve problems and meet project goals.
- EH&S experience in Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology research.
- Trainings that may be required depending on the role: HAZWOPER, RCRA, DOT/IATA.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology or Life Science related discipline.
- Environmental, Health or Safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH certificate, IOSH, ASP.
