The Director of International Commercial Training & Capabilities will play a pivotal role in shaping the vision and strategy for training and capability development across the international region. This leadership position is integral to achieving departmental and organizational goals by ensuring the commercial field teams are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel. The role involves leading a team, managing training portfolios, and fostering collaboration with cross-functional partners to drive exceptional performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the International Insights, Analytics & Commercial Operations (IIACO) Leadership Team, contributing to strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and implement the vision and strategy for training and capabilities in the international region.
  • Provide leadership to employees and contractors/vendors, ensuring clarity of priorities, exceptional performance, and effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • Manage the training and capabilities portfolio, including external budgets, with a focus on initiatives aligned with departmental goals.
  • Conduct performance analyses to identify skill and knowledge gaps, supporting the development of required competencies.
  • Perform training needs assessments and design continuous learning initiatives tailored to the needs of commercial field teams.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with IHQ, country, and global stakeholders to identify training needs and develop specific objectives and strategies.
  • Represent Training & Development in brand and business planning processes.
  • Oversee the identification, selection, and management of vendors and related projects for field training.
  • Stay updated on best practices and trends in learning, training, and development within the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries, leveraging advances in digital, live, and virtual platforms.
  • Champion appropriate behaviors and foster a culture of compliance, integrity, and ethics.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Extensive experience in coaching and inspiring teams to achieve clear goals and holding them accountable for results.
  • Significant experience in specialty/rare disease pharmaceutical/biotechnology sales training.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence in diverse settings with a focus on continuous development.
  • Ability to communicate and influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and delivering training and capability solutions independently across functional and geographic areas.
  • Strong ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with attention to detail, committed follow-through, and sound business judgment.
  • Expertise in performance analysis and training needs assessment.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing learning initiatives across digital, live, and virtual platforms.
  • Strong project management skills, including vendor selection and relationship management.
  • Experience in managing external budgets and aligning initiatives with organizational goals.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in rare diseases, cell and genetic therapies and/or hospital-based selling.
  • International/Global/above-market experience.
