SAP ABAP Tax Technology Field Consultant Principal in London

As part of the Global Professional Services organization at Vertex, Inc., the Principal Technical Consultant leads the technical components of SAP implementations, with a focus on deploying Vertex solutions on the SAP Business Technology Platform. This role focuses on SAP functional configuration within the MM, SD, and FI modules to support the integration of Vertex solutions with SAP systems. Experience with e-invoicing solutions is considered a plus. The consultant participates in all phases of Vertex product and technology implementations, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and may help identify additional value‑added services that support Vertex's revenue growth and profitability objectives.

Required Qualifications:

• Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience accepted in lieu of a formal degree.
• 7+ years of hands‑on SAP programming experience, including ABAP OOP, BADIs, BAPIs, EDI, Idocs, workflow, and Data Dictionary.
• 7+ years of experience in SAP interface design and development.
• Minimum 1 year of experience deploying and integrating solutions on SAP BTP.
• Proven experience evaluating business requirements, developing and debugging custom SAP code, and performing configuration in MM, SD, and/or FI.
• Ability to lead technical implementation tasks aligned with a defined Statement of Work (SOW) and Vertex best practices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across customer and internal teams.
• Experience implementing e‑invoicing solutions within SAP (strong preference).
• Experience implementing tax systems, with a preference for Vertex and SAP solutions, including Accelerator and Plus Tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• SAP technology certifications or credentials.
• Strong understanding of SAP methodologies, development practices, and project leadership.
• Familiarity with SAP business process flows, especially Order‑to‑Cash and Procure‑to‑Pay.
• Deep expertise in ABAP objects (classes, interfaces, structures, extensions, function modules).
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic project environments.
