Mechanical Maintenance Engineer – Peterborough Β£42,000 – Β£48,000 depending on experience | Permanent, full time | Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm | Site-based VERTEER Consulting is recruiting a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for an industrial engineering business that provides dedicated maintenance support at a major food-manufacturing site in Peterborough. The role You will be the engineer on site responsible for keeping production equipment running. The work covers planned and reactive maintenance, fault-finding and mechanical repairs, and spotting developing equipment issues early so they can be dealt with before they cause significant downtime. Main responsibilities Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs Mechanical fault-finding and component replacement Maintaining conveyors, belts, chains, bearings and gearboxes Working on pumps, valves, motors and mechanical drive systems Maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic equipment Supporting production, process and packaging machinery Reading and working from engineering drawings Recording completed maintenance work Identifying developing faults and recommending appropriate remedial work Communicating clearly with the customer and other site stakeholders Working safely within a food-manufacturing environment What you will need Strong hands-on mechanical maintenance experience Experience maintaining production, manufacturing or industrial machinery Practical knowledge of bearings, conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, hydraulics and pneumatics Experience completing PPM and responding to breakdowns The ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs independently Able to work permanently on site in Peterborough Full UK driving licence A suitable engineering, mechanical or maintenance qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical training Useful but not essential Food, beverage or FMCG manufacturing experience Experience with processing or packaging equipment Welding or fabrication ability Basic electrical fault-finding knowledge Experience working directly with customers or recommending additional remedial work Food-manufacturing experience is not a requirement.
