We are recruiting on behalf of a highly successful technology company that designs and manufactures advanced RF and microwave communication systems used in mission-critical applications worldwide. Due to continued growth and investment, they are seeking an experienced Principal Design Engineer to play a leading role in the development of next-generation High Power Amplifier (HPA) systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and taking ownership of products from concept through to production.

As a Principal Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of high-performance RF power amplifier systems across a broad frequency range, working on both existing and new product platforms. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and have the autonomy to influence technical direction, architecture decisions and product performance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Designing and developing high-power RF amplifier systems and associated subsystems
  • Defining RF architectures and system-level solutions
  • Working across the full product lifecycle from concept, simulation and design through to test, validation and production
  • Conducting hands-on laboratory development, tuning, optimisation and fault finding
  • Supporting system integration activities involving RF, power electronics and control systems
  • Improving existing products to enhance performance, efficiency and reliability
  • Providing technical expertise to support new product development and customer requirements
  • Producing technical documentation and sharing knowledge across the engineering team

About You:

We are looking for an experienced RF engineer with a strong background in high-power amplifier development and system-level design. You are likely to have experience in several of the following areas:

  • High Power Amplifiers (HPA), Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPA) or related RF power systems
  • RF and microwave design and development
  • System architecture and performance optimisation
  • RF test and measurement equipment including Vector Network Analysers (VNA), Spectrum Analysers and Signal Generators
  • RF simulation, modelling and analysis
  • Integration of RF systems with analogue, digital or power electronics

Experience in satellite communications, defence, aerospace, telecommunications or other high-frequency communication systems would be highly advantageous. Additional experience with millimetre-wave technologies, V-band development or travelling wave tube amplifiers (TWTA) would be particularly beneficial.

If you're an experienced RF Design Engineer looking for a technically challenging role where you can influence the development of advanced communication systems, we'd love to hear from you.
