An established UK-based technology business is looking to hire an NPI & Manufacturing Quality Engineer to play a key role in freeing up its core Engineering team to focus on new, next-generation product development. This is a highly influential role, owning product quality from day one of NPI through volume production and all the way to End of Life (EOL). You will sit at the interface between R&D, manufacturing, suppliers and quality, ensuring that what has already been delivered continues to perform flawlessly, while new products scale smoothly into production.
As NPI & Manufacturing Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for embedding robust quality, manufacturing and test processes into electronic products from the earliest stages of development. This role is not about volume scale alone; whether products ship in hundreds or millions of units, what matters is strong electronic engineering knowledge, understanding of components, systems, manufacturing processes and the discipline required to establish quality early and maintain it throughout the product lifecycle.
Key focus areas include:
- New Product Introduction (NPI) and production readiness
- Manufacturing quality and supplier performance
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT)
- Yield, reliability and continuous improvement
- Supporting existing products in production so R&D can focus on future innovation
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the NPI process from development through pilot builds, production ramp-up and release
- Define and manage pre-production builds, quality gates, pilot runs and supplier readiness reviews
- Own process validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ), production trials and line qualifications
- Work closely with R&D to ensure DFM, DFT and serviceability are embedded from day one
- Establish and maintain FMEAs, control plans, FAIs, validation reports and quality documentation
- Act as the quality interface to contract manufacturers and key suppliers, resolving issues and driving improvements
- Monitor yield, scrap, rework and field returns using structured root cause analysis and CAPA
- Support production test systems, fixtures, calibration and automation where required
- Ensure ongoing compliance with relevant standards and certifications
Skills & Experience Required:
- Strong background in Electronic Engineering, Manufacturing Quality, NPI or Process Engineering
- Experience supporting products from design transfer through production and into EOL
- Solid understanding of electronic components, assemblies, systems and manufacturing processes
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and global suppliers
- Hands-on knowledge of quality tools such as PFMEA, SPC, 8D, 5 Whys, Six Sigma
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and related manufacturing/electronics standards
- Comfortable operating cross-functionally and influencing without authority
