A specialist engineering company is seeking a Principal / Lead Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of highly bespoke Hydraulics/Pneumatics/Automation and mechanical systems for technically demanding applications. You must have a strong mechanical design background in precision Hydraulics/Pneumatics. Any experience in robotics would be beneficial, but not essential. This is a hands-on engineering role where you will take ownership of projects from initial concept through to build, testing and delivery.
Working closely with customers and a small multidisciplinary team, you will design innovative mechanical solutions and ensure the successful integration of hardware, software and mechanical subsystems. The role would suit an experienced mechanical design engineer with strong practical engineering skills, who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and seeing their designs brought to life in the workshop.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the design and development of bespoke mechanical and robotic systems.
- Work directly with customers to understand requirements and translate these into practical engineering solutions.
- Manage project timelines and maintain regular communication with clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Produce detailed 3D CAD designs.
- Create engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and build documentation.
- Lead design reviews and contribute ideas to improve system performance and reliability.
- Support the assembly, testing and commissioning of systems.
