We're looking for an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead firmware development and drive delivery of embedded products. You'll manage key projects, mentor engineers, and work closely with architecture and leadership teams to shape how products are built for the future.
About the Role
You'll own project delivery across firmware development - from requirements and design through production. This is a technical leadership position where you'll drive innovation, mentor engineers, and contribute to our product strategy.
Your day-to-day:
- Lead firmware development projects across multiple platforms and device types
- Work with our architecture team on technical design decisions and implementation
- Manage project delivery and technical timelines in collaboration with the engineering manager
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, helping them grow technically
- Collaborate with hardware, product, and leadership teams
- Research emerging technologies and evaluate new approaches for our products
- Drive improvements in our development practices – version control, testing, CI/CD
- Support product certification, EMC testing and regulatory compliance
You'll be someone teams rely on for technical depth and delivery – raising the bar for embedded systems excellence.
What We're Looking For
Core requirements:
- Demonstrable experience in embedded systems firmware development with proven technical leadership
- Strong and substantial expertise in Embedded C/C++
- Hands-on experience with RTOS-based development (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or equivalent)
- Microcontroller/SoC experience (ARM Cortex M, ESP32 or similar)
- Wireless communication protocols (Bluetooth, WiFi, LoRa or others)
- Full product lifecycle experience – from requirements through production
- BEng/BSc in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Git and collaborative development workflows
- Detail-oriented with genuine commitment to code quality and testing
Nice-to-have:
- PCB design (Altium) or hardware design experience
- Medical device or safety-critical systems background
- Hands-on electronics – soldering, breadboarding, circuit design
- Linux systems and embedded Linux development
- Python or scripting for test automation
- IoT ecosystems and sensor networks
- MSc/MEng qualification
- Published technical work or open-source contributions
Why This Role
You'll work with a team that values engineering excellence. There's real technical depth.
You'll have autonomy over your projects, work alongside architects and leadership, and build sustainable systems. This is about solving problems properly, not cutting corners.
You'll mentor engineers, see your work in deployed products, and actually get to think about what good embedded systems design looks like – rather than fighting fire all day.
What's on Offer
- Permanent, full-time position
- Opportunity to lead technically and mentor a team
- Involvement in product strategy and technology decisions
- Exposure to real-world embedded systems challenges (IoT, wireless, medical devices, etc.)
- Work alongside engineers who care about doing things right
About You
You're an engineer who cares about quality. You've shipped products, led projects, and understand what makes robust embedded systems. You're not afraid to challenge the status quo and push for better processes. You communicate clearly – both with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders. You're genuinely interested in embedded systems and want to work somewhere that values depth.
