Are you an experienced Quality Manager looking for an opportunity to take ownership of quality across multiple manufacturing sites?
We're working with an established manufacturing business operating across two UK sites, looking for a Quality Manager to lead their QHSE function. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll be responsible for quality management, supplier quality, QMS/EMS, health & safety and customer quality, while leading a team of Quality Engineers and supporting the business in driving continuous improvement.
The Role
- Lead and manage the Quality function across both sites
- Maintain and develop the ISO 9001 QMS across both locations
- Oversee ISO 14001 compliance and environmental management
- Ensure consistent workmanship standards across areas including painting, plating, welding, IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620
- Drive reductions in rework, rejects and internal and external failure costs
- Develop and standardise quality processes, training and SOPs across both sites
- Manage internal audits, management reviews and external certification audits
- Lead supplier quality activities in partnership with Procurement
- Monitor supplier performance and drive improvement initiatives to reduce supplier-related failures
- Manage customer complaints from initial response through investigation, resolution and closure
- Act as the lead QHSE contact during customer visits and communications
- Provide quality documentation including Certificates of Conformity, Device History Records and as-built documentation
- Support customer bids and tender responses with QHSE input
- Lead, mentor and develop Quality Engineers and supporting team members
- Oversee health & safety responsibilities, risk assessments, accident investigations and training across both sites
- Ensure compliance with relevant environmental and health & safety legislation
- Drive a culture of continuous quality improvement across the business
What We're Looking For
- Strong experience maintaining and managing an ISO 9001:2015 QMS
- Experience as an internal auditor for ISO 9001
- Proven experience improving manufacturing quality, reducing rejects and driving process improvement
- Experience managing or leading Quality Engineers and Inspectors
- Strong practical problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing quality processes and continuous improvement
Desirable experience includes:
- Background in sheet metal fabrication and/or machining
- Electronics box-build manufacturing experience
- Aerospace and Defence experience
- ISO 14001 experience
- Health & Safety management
- Knowledge of Defence Standards
- Experience with FMEA, Cost of Quality, Value Stream Mapping and the 8 Wastes
- Quality Management qualification, CQI membership or Lead Auditor qualification
- NEBOSH General Certificate
