The Opportunity

We’re working with an innovative engineering company developing advanced electronic products. They are looking for a hands-on Test Development Engineer to design and build a bespoke ATE (Automated Test Equipment) system for complex electronic products. This is a hardware-focused role, ideal for someone who enjoys building complete test systems (hardware integration etc).

The Role

You’ll take ownership of the design, build, and deployment of a custom test system, working closely with hardware, software, and manufacturing teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and develop hardware for ATE systems, including fixtures, interface boards, and switching
  • Define test architecture and Design for Testability (DfT) requirements
  • Build and integrate complete test systems from concept to production
  • Work with software engineers to ensure seamless hardware/software integration
  • Support NPI, pilot builds, and production ramp
  • Troubleshoot issues and drive yield and performance improvements
  • Validate and document test systems for manufacturing use

Essential:

  • Strong background in electronic hardware (analogue, digital, power, high-speed)
  • Experience designing or building test systems / ATE hardware
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.)
  • Ability to develop test plans and system-level solutions
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams

Desirable:

  • Experience with DfT, BIST, or production test environments
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (SMT, functional test, etc.)
  • Experience with fixtures, interface boards, or custom test hardware
  • Exposure to CAD or working with mechanical teams (fixtures / 3D printed parts)
