We're partnering with a wellâestablished engineering business who are looking to appoint a Senior Embedded Software Engineer with deep experience in safetyâcritical embedded systems and a background in medical device development. This role requires someone who can not only deliver highâintegrity embedded software, but also establish and refine processes for new product development, ensuring the right frameworks, controls, and documentation are in place for compliant software delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded software in C/C++ for medical devices and safetyâcritical systems.
- Produce highâintegrity code compliant with ISO 13485 and associated medical standards.
- Lead on software architecture, design reviews, and technical decisionâmaking.
- Collaborate closely with hardware, systems, and quality teams across the full development lifecycle.
- Support verification, validation, and riskâmanagement activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and mentor junior engineers where required.
Essential Experience:
- Proven background in embedded software engineering within the medical device sector.
- Strong proficiency in Embedded C and bare metal programming.
- Handsâon experience developing safetyâcritical code aligned with ISO 13485.
- Familiarity with structured development methodologies (e.g., Vâmodel, IEC 62304âaligned processes).
- Strong debugging, problemâsolving, and documentation skills.
Desirable / Advantageous:
- Experience with regulatory frameworks such as FDA, MDR, IEC 62304, ISO 14971.
- Exposure to unit testing, static analysis, or automated test environments.
- Understanding of cybersecurity considerations for connected medical devices.
- Experience with CI/CD or DevOps practices for embedded systems.
