Role Overview
As a Healthcare Technical Architect, you will design and deliver interoperability solutions for health system clients, working across the full integration lifecycle: from initial options analysis and standards assessment through to hands‑on delivery using FHIR R4/R5, HL7 v2. x, and Rhapsody.
You are the Rhapsody specialist on the engagement and will be the go‑to person for integration engine design, configuration, and delivery.
You bring working knowledge of Cerner Millennium or equivalent EMR platforms (Soarian, Epic, etc.), understand how HL7 v2 workflows behave in production, and can validate FHIR resources against published profiles.
Your Java background lets you contribute meaningfully to integration logic, not just design diagrams.
This is a hands‑on role: we expect you to get into the detail alongside the delivery team.
You will need to be comfortable working independently, taking ownership of integration decisions from design through to delivery without a dedicated integration specialist to fall back on.
Key Responsibilities
- Design end‑to‑end healthcare integration architectures covering ADT, ORM, and ORU message flows using HL7 v2. x and FHIR R4/R5.
- Lead FHIR transformation and validation work, including use of HAPI FHIR and FHIR Validator CLI pipelines.
- Own integration engine design and configuration end‑to‑end using Rhapsody/Raa S or an equivalent tool such as Mirth Connect (Next Gen), Inter Systems Health Connect/Health Share, Iguana, Cloverleaf, or Mule Soft.
- Define data governance standards covering lineage, quality, and enrichment for health data in transit and at rest.
- Map Salesforce Health Cloud objects (Patient, Encounter, Care Plan, Task) to FHIR R4/R5 resources where client platforms require it.
- Advise on Cerner Millennium integration patterns including Ignite APIs, Power Chart/Discern data structures, and scheduling/identity models.
- Collaborate with clinical informatics teams to align integration designs with operational workflows and patient safety requirements.
- Present integration architectures to clinical and technical stakeholders, translating complex interoperability decisions into clear business terms.
- Contribute to the Version 1 healthcare practice, helping build repeatable integration patterns, internal knowledge bases, and team capability.
Essential Requirements
- 5+ years in integration or solution architecture, with at least 2 years in healthcare or life sciences.
- Hands‑on experience with Inter Systems Health Connect/Health Share or an equivalent integration engine (Mirth Connect, Iguana, Cloverleaf, or Mule Soft).
- FHIR R4/R5 delivery: resource modelling, transformation, validation pipelines (HAPI FHIR, FHIR Validator CLI), and conformance profiling.
- HL7 v2. x message handling across ADT, ORM, and ORU workflows.
- Cerner Millennium or equivalent EMR integration: Ignite APIs, Power Chart/Discern data structures, or comparable platform‑level experience.
- Data governance in a regulated health environment: lineage, quality standards, MPI concepts, and GDPR/HIPAA awareness.
- Comfortable owning integration decisions independently, without a specialist to escalate to.
- Highly Desirable
- Java development background: sufficient to contribute to integration logic and review engine‑side transformations.
- Salesforce Health Cloud: mapping Patient, Encounter, Care Plan, and Task objects to FHIR R4/R5.
- Experience operating as the sole integration specialist on a delivery: owning decisions end‑to‑end without specialist backup.
- Familiarity with testing frameworks for healthcare integration: message simulation, regression testing, and conformance validation.
- Active participation in technical communities, staying current with technology trends, and contributing to professional development through knowledge sharing, presentations, or thought leadership.
