Content designers make the complex simple. For our clients, you will be creating accessible, inclusive products and services that are easy to understand and use. You will work with organisations to understand their goals, improve user journeys, content quality, and the service they need to provide. You will be able to work closely with other disciplines within agile delivery teams, particularly user researchers, service designers, and interaction designers, as well as influential stakeholders such as service owners and policy teams.
Qualifications
- Agile working: You understand agile methodology and how to apply agile ways of working to designing content. You know how to ensure you and the team have an awareness of user needs and how individual contributions link to broader objectives. You’ll share work early and often, encourage team and cross-functional collaboration, and promote consistency in communications. You can work in a fast-paced environment, using iterative and flexible approaches to deliver outcomes rapidly. You can use platforms and tools like Figma and Jira to collaborate, manage, and document your work.
- Stakeholder relationship management: You can identify important stakeholders, tailoring communication to their needs, and work with teams to build these relationships. You have experience representing the user to these groups and using evidence to build consensus to deliver the best outcome.
- Strategic thinking: You can understand strategies and policies, providing guidance to others on working to deliver the policy intent and the strategic vision. You know how to evaluate current strategies to ensure the policy, organisation, and user requirements are being met and exceeded where possible.
- User focus: You can identify tasks that will provide insight into a problem. You can formulate hypotheses and make decisions based on user research findings and data. You can translate user stories into content that meets users’ needs and propose suitable designs and solutions. You can use quantitative and qualitative data about users to turn user insights into outcomes.
- User-centred content design: You can make complex language and processes easy to understand, presenting the right information at the right time in a format that users need. You have excellent editorial skills, an eye for detail, and experience publishing digital content. You understand how to make content accessible to all. Additionally, you have practical understanding of UK government content design standards and accessibility requirements.
- Prototyping: You know how to bring analytics and user research findings into your design work and how to work collaboratively with researchers, designers, and developers. You understand the value of using different prototyping techniques and how to select the best option for different audiences and outcomes.
