Head of Capability – UCD & Insights

This is an exciting time to be part of the newly formed Fusion unit which is driving the digital business consulting and transformation services we offer to new and existing clients. This builds on the Design capability we already had within DDC and the increased capacity and capability that we now have following the acquisition of Farsight in 2024.

The Heads of Capability will report to the Fusion Director and their primary focus will be on leading, developing and growing the people within the capability.

As the Head of Capability for UCD & Insights, you will lead a team of 70 people with an expectation of this to grow by at least 15% in 2025, likely more. The team consists of a number of specialisms including User Research, Content Design, Interaction & UX Design and Analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the people in the capability working with the network of empowered line managers across the unit
  • Owns the strategy around growth for the capability
  • Managing day to day operations of the capability. Ultimate escalation point for people-related topics in the capability
  • Working in close collaboration with other Heads of Capability as well as with Heads of Propositions, Trusted advisors in the unit, and those in client lead roles on projects/accounts
  • Responsible for meeting hiring targets to support growth and client needs and strategic goals, supported by those who are running specialist communities of practice within the unit
  • Owns definition of excellence for the capability understanding what good looks like across the specialisms and agile delivery
  • Allocating people to projects across all sectors, working with specialism leads and line managers
  • Calibration of quarterly performance scores, promotion applications and salary reviews
  • Collectively own budget for capabilities where applicable

KPI’s

  • Chargeability rates for your capability and collectively with other Heads of Capability for the unit, and efficient workforce planning
  • Increasing Staff engagement/happiness

Qualifications

  • Growth mindset – focused on growing the business through developing people to be the best practitioners and offering excellent client delivery
  • Expertise across the UCD specialisms including analytics, and with a strong understanding of how the unit\’s full skillset delivers value for users
  • A real people leader, you will be ambitious for you and your team and able to build excitement and navigate through change
  • A strategic thinker, someone who is able to see the bigger picture and be forward looking whilst also prepared to be hands on to manage the day to day operations for a large team
  • Highly collaborative, be able to work as a tight unit with the other Heads of Capabilities and other senior stakeholders across the organisation
  • Delivery experience working as part of a consultancy leading teams
