Design detailed interaction patterns, component behaviours, and interface states for digital products and services.
Produce high-fidelity prototypes to communicate and validate interaction logic with users and developers.
Define and document micro-interactions, error states, validation patterns, and edge cases.
Apply and extend the GOV.UK Design System, contributing reusable patterns where appropriate.
Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure accurate, accessible implementation of designs.
Ensure all interface designs meet WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards and responsive design requirements.
Work with UX designers and user researchers to refine interactions based on evidence.
Maintain design system consistency and contribute to shared component libraries.
Document interaction specifications clearly to support development handoff.
Qualifications
- Expert proficiency in Figma or equivalent design tooling, including component and variant management.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating interaction-level design decisions, prototyping, and design system work.
- Familiarity with the GOV.UK Design System and experience designing within or alongside established design systems.
- Working knowledge of HTML5 and CSS/Sass sufficient to collaborate effectively with front-end engineers.
- Understanding of WCAG 2.2 and practical application within interface design.
- Experience using AI tools to accelerate prototyping, pattern generation, or design documentation.
- Strong communication skills, with ability to present and justify interaction decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
