Senior Delivery Manager (Apprenticeships/Assessments)

Versende is delighted to be partnering with a leading apprenticeship end-point assessment organisation, part of one of the UK's most successful digital venture builders, to appoint a Senior Delivery Manager for their assessment function.
This is a pivotal operational leadership role at a genuinely exciting point in the organisation's growth. Assessment volumes are rising, major provider partnerships are expanding, and the sector's reform of apprenticeship assessment is changing how delivery works. Our client needs someone to take the reins of day-to-day delivery, and to take the weight of that off the senior team.
The role
Reporting to the Executive Director and line-managing the Lead SMEs (who in turn manage the assessor community), you'll own the structure, rhythm and accountability that keep assessment delivery reliable at scale. This is not a passive reporting role. It's for someone who gets underneath the detail, makes decisions, unblocks issues and drives improvement at pace.
You'll be responsible for:
- Leading the performance, capacity and effectiveness of the assessment team, and holding the Lead SMEs to account for their teams
- Owning utilisation, capacity and workforce planning, making sure the right assessors are available against the right standards, at the right time
- Controlling scheduling, delivery and SLA performance, intervening early where bottlenecks or availability create risk
- Driving assessor onboarding, upskilling and readiness against forecast demand
- Working closely with Quality/IQA and Compliance to keep delivery valid, fair and Ofqual-compliant
- Championing effective use of their assessment technology and turning MI into clear, decisive action
- Escalating only material learner, compliance, customer, SLA or commercial risk, and bringing recommendations, not just problems
What we're looking for
- Significant experience in apprenticeship assessment, awarding, EPAO or a closely related regulated delivery environment
- Strong people leadership, including managing managers or senior practitioners
- A proven ability to lead operational delivery in a fast-paced, high-volume setting
- Workforce planning, utilisation and capacity management experience
- Confident use of data and MI to manage performance, spot risk and drive improvement
- Strong stakeholder-management skills and the credibility to work confidently across senior teams
- Someone with genuine clout and cut-through: decisive, calm under pressure and unafraid to make the call
