We are seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join a high-performing Windows Engineering team within a global financial services investment bank. This role will provide senior-level engineering support and project contribution across a complex, enterprise-scale Windows and virtualised infrastructure estate.
Operating within a fast-paced, highly regulated environment, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining platform stability, security, resilience, and operational discipline across the estate. This is a hands-on senior engineering role combining BAU ownership with strategic infrastructure improvement initiatives. Candidates must have prior experience within financial services and be comfortable operating in high-pressure, audit-sensitive environments.
Key Responsibilities- Provide senior-level support across the global Windows Server estate, ensuring availability, performance, patching, configuration, and incident resolution.
- Own and troubleshoot VMware ESX/vSphere environments, including lifecycle management and optimisation.
- Support Azure services within a production footprint (PaaS, ExpressRoute, and potential cloud desktop initiatives).
- Maintain and support core on-premise infrastructure including: Microsoft O365 (Teams, Exchange, OneDrive and associated enterprise application configurations).
- Lead resolution of complex infrastructure issues across Windows, virtualisation, storage, and networking layers.
- Execute upgrades, performance tuning, and platform optimisation initiatives.
- Research, assess, and apply security fixes and patches in line with industry and regulatory best practices.
- Contribute to infrastructure rationalisation and security improvement programmes.
- Support platform migrations, lifecycle management, and upgrade initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with architecture, security, and engineering teams to implement strategic improvements.
- Ensure compliance with internal audit, security, and regulatory standards in a financial services environment.
- Maintain high-quality documentation, diagrams, and operational artefacts.
- Participate in structured change management processes, ensuring changes are risk assessed and executed safely.
- Extensive hands-on experience with VMware ESX/vSphere administration, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.
- Strong expertise across Windows Server (2016–2022), including: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Certificate Services, File and Print Services, Advanced PowerShell scripting.
- Proven experience working within financial services or a similarly regulated, high-pressure enterprise environment.
- Operational knowledge of Pure Storage.
- Experience supporting Azure IaaS/PaaS in production environments.
- Strong troubleshooting capability across multi-layered infrastructure stacks.
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, capacity management, and performance tuning.
- Experience in infrastructure rationalisation or transformation programmes.
- Knowledge of security hardening standards and regulatory frameworks (FCA, SOX, GDPR).
- Strong automation mindset with PowerShell or infrastructure scripting experience.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (Cisco, VLANs, load balancers, etc.).
- Calm and effective under pressure within a regulated financial services setting.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation discipline.
- Proactive, analytical, and solutions-focused.
