This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior finance leadership role within a long-established, highly respected, and operationally complex Scottish business. Operating at the heart of a people-intensive, export-driven supply chain, the business combines deep local knowledge with international reach. Financial performance is closely linked to seasonality, yield, currency exposure, and logistics, creating a commercial environment where finance must be visible, practical, and closely aligned to operations. The Head of Finance will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function while providing strategic insight and support to senior management. You will operate close to the operation, working collaboratively across the business to ensure finance supports decision-making in a commercially grounded way.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the month-end close and delivery of timely, accurate management accounts
- Preparation and review of P&L, balance sheet and cashflow reporting
- Oversight of VAT reporting, including international requirements
- Banking, payment processes and currency trading
- Cash management and weekly funding requirements
- Coordination of annual insurance renewals
- Ownership of the annual budgeting process
- Preparation of weekly and monthly forecasts
- Variance analysis and performance commentary to senior stakeholders
- Statutory reporting across UK and international entities
- Coordination with external auditors and tax advisors
- ONS reporting and compliance with group audit requirements
- Financial analysis to support operational and strategic decisions
- CAPEX appraisal, lease and contract review, and business case evaluation
- Delivery of clear, practical reporting across KPIs, logistics, cost centres, inventory, stock counts and new product lines
- Leadership, development and mentoring of the finance team
- Continuous improvement of processes, controls and reporting
- Building strong cross-functional relationships across the site
Who are we looking for:
- You will be a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys being close to the detail while retaining a clear strategic perspective.
- Professionally qualified accountant (preferred)
- Proven experience in a senior finance role within a commercial environment, with SME experience essential
- Exposure to multi-entity and/or international reporting advantageous
- Confident people leader with a collaborative, hands-on style
- High attention to detail, strong judgement, and the ability to operate in a fast-moving, operational setting
