Vero Recruitment has been exclusively appointed to hire a commercially focused Financial Controller based in Aberdeen, for a highly successful, privately owned business.
About our client
With a heritage spanning more than four decades, this organisation has built an outstanding reputation within their specialist sector.
Operating in a highly specialised environment, the business combines deep technical expertise with an entrepreneurial approach, developing tailored solutions for complex projects across sectors including offshore energy, renewables, research and subsea operations.
Following a period of continued success and investment, the business is now entering an exciting new chapter of growth.
This represents an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to join at a pivotal point in the company's journey and play a key role in shaping its future.
The role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director and working closely with the senior leadership team, the Financial Controller will take ownership of the company's finance function, providing both strong financial control and valuable commercial insight.
The successful individual will become a trusted business partner, helping leaders understand performance, supporting strategic decisions and contributing to the ongoing development of the organisation.
Working within a small and highly experienced team, you will have genuine visibility across the business, gaining exposure to operational activities, commercial discussions, tender processes and future investment decisions.
For someone who enjoys variety, autonomy and being close to decision-making, this role offers a rare opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day management of the finance function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Manage and support a small finance team, encouraging high standards and continuous improvement.
- Prepare monthly management information, providing insight into financial performance across the business.
- Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Support cash flow management and provide financial analysis to assist commercial decision-making.
- Work closely with the leadership team on business planning, investment decisions and funding requirements.
- Support tendering and commercial activities by providing financial information and analysis.
- Ensure appropriate financial controls, processes and reporting frameworks are maintained.
About you
You will be an experienced finance professional who enjoys working in a hands-on environment where your contribution is visible and valued.
You may already be operating as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or senior management accountant looking for a broader role, with the ambition and ability to become a key commercial partner within a growing organisation.
You will be comfortable working independently, communicating financial information clearly and building strong relationships with colleagues outside of finance.
Experience within a smaller business environment would be highly beneficial, as would exposure to multi-currency operations, cash flow management or project-based organisations.
Most importantly, you will be commercially curious, highly reliable and motivated by the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders and influence business performance.
Reasons to consider this opportunity
- Join a financially strong, privately owned organisation with a 45-year track record of success.
- Work directly with the Managing Director and senior leadership team.
- Enjoy genuine commercial exposure beyond traditional finance responsibilities.
- Become part of a close-knit team with exceptional levels of staff retention.
- Play a key role in the next phase of business growth and investment.
- Work within a unique industry where every project brings new challenges.
