Vero Recruitment is delighted to be exclusively supporting The MacRobert Trust to appoint a Head of Finance. Set against the backdrop of a historic estate in Aberdeenshire, The MacRobert Trust blends heritage with forward-thinking ambition, delivering meaningful social, environmental, and economic impact through its “10 Goals for 10 Years” strategy. This role sits right at the heart of that journey.
The MacRobert Trust is a values-led charitable organisation with a clear sense of purpose and legacy. Guided by the MacRobert Pillars, the Trust invests in initiatives that create lasting impact across communities, while also operating a diverse and dynamic estate including commercial activities that support long-term sustainability. It’s an organisation where people care about the mission, about each other, and about doing things properly.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior leadership role with genuine breadth. You’ll lead finance, but you’ll also shape how the organisation plans, measures performance, and delivers change. You’ll work closely with the CEO, Board, and senior leadership team, bringing clarity to decision-making, strengthening systems and processes, and helping the Trust evolve as it enters the next phase of its strategy. It’s a role for someone who enjoys variety, who can zoom out to think strategically but is equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves when needed.
You’ll take ownership of:
- Financial leadership, governance, and reporting across the Trust and its subsidiaries
- Driving performance through better planning, insight, and business partnering
- Supporting delivery of the “10 Goals for 10 Years” strategy
- Oversight of IT and marketing from a strategic and performance perspective
- Strengthening systems, processes, and organisational effectiveness
- Acting as a key advisor to the CEO, Board, and Committees
You’ll lead a small, capable finance team, while also influencing well beyond your function.
We’re looking for a qualified accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent) who has:
- Operated at a senior level with exposure beyond finance
- Strong business partnering and communication skills
- A track record of driving improvement, change, or transformation
- A genuine interest in systems, processes, and how organisations operate
- The ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery
You’ll be collaborative, pragmatic, and naturally curious. Someone who looks beyond the numbers and understands the people and purpose behind them.
On offer:
- A genuine leadership position with influence across the whole organisation
- A chance to contribute to meaningful, purpose-driven work
- A broad, varied remit that goes well beyond finance
- A supportive, values-led culture
- A beautiful working environment in rural Aberdeenshire
Alongside this, there’s a strong benefits package including enhanced annual leave, pension, wellbeing support, and access to on-site facilities. Our client is open to applicants looking to work either four or five days, and they can offer some hybrid working too.
If this sounds like something you’d like to explore we’d be delighted to have a confidential conversation. As always with Vero, we’ll give you a clear, honest view, helping you decide whether this is the right move for you.
