This is an exciting opportunity to join a long-established, values-led mutual with ambitious plans for continued growth. As Intermediary Business Development Manager, you’ll lead and shape the Society’s intermediary mortgage business, playing a key role in expanding our reach and reputation.

With over 100 years of history, Vernon Building Society originating in Stockport, we continue to define our commitment to personal, community-focused service. We’re building on that legacy with a modern, strategic mindset – growing our intermediary proposition and supporting intermediaries and customers throughout England and Wales.

Our approach to lending is grounded in common sense and personal assessment, not automated processes. We specialise in helping customers who are often underserved by mainstream lenders, working closely with intermediaries to turn complex cases into achievable mortgage solutions.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity for a driven, relationship-focused sales leader to make a real impact – shaping our intermediary journey, driving high service standards, and helping us grow with purpose and integrity.

As Intermediary Business Development Manager, you’ll play a key role in delivering this growth – supported by our Intermediary Telephone Sales Desk that puts brokers first, you’ll focus on building high-value relationships with intermediaries, networks and clubs, converting opportunities, and delivering standout service that sets us apart.

The Role:

  • Support the growth of mortgage new business sales and mix in line with annual Corporate Plan through developing existing and new business opportunities.
  • Specific responsibility for managing relationships and supporting retention of existing business with identified Key Brokers, Networks and Clubs.
  • Represent the Society at key industry events, panels, and conferences—building visibility, strengthening broker relationships, and positioning us as a trusted voice in the mortgage market.

Package:

  • £50,000 per annum, pro rata for part-time (mid-market 80-120% range based on skills and experience) plus a full range of employee benefits
  • Car Allowance £4,800 per annum
  • Pension scheme (7.5% employer contributions rising to 10% after 2 years) following pension auto enrolment criteria after a 13-week postponement period
  • Salary exchange for pensions arrangement
  • 4 x salary death in service benefit
  • 25 days holiday (plus statutory bank holidays), increasing to 27 after 2 years.
