Forward Deployed Engineer (Full-Stack, AI) Shoreditch, London · On‑site, 5 days a week · £100K–£160K + meaningful equity
Due to the nature of this role, 3–6 years of software/product engineering experience, ideally at a well-regarded startup, fast‑growing scale‑up, (S‑tier or A‑tier) Is a must!
Our client is a venture-backed AI start‑up building software for large enterprises in a highly regulated, safety‑critical industry. Much of that industry's core work still runs on manual processes, documents and email, and the company is replacing it with intelligent, AI‑driven workflows.
It is growing fast. The product is already live with several of the biggest names in its market, the company is backed by leading venture investors, and it is well positioned for its next funding round.
The role
This is a forward‑deployed engineering role for someone who wants real ownership. You'll work directly with enterprise customers, learn how they actually operate, and build full‑stack, AI‑powered software around their workflows. There's no template and no queue of tickets: you decide what to build, build it, and own the result. You'll ship to production in your first week.
What you’ll do
Embed with customers. Join their calls, read their real documents and map how they run scheduling, technical review, conformity assessment and field inspection.
Own deployments end to end. Lead each one from the first scoping call to production rollout, across the interface, backend, data model and LLM layer, and make sure it delivers results.
Build document intelligence. Create AI workflows that pull structure and meaning out of messy Word documents, PDFs, spreadsheets and email, replacing slow manual processes.
Shape the product. Work closely with the founders, CTO and lead engineer to turn field learnings into reusable platform features.
Raise the quality bar. Review and improve hundreds of real outputs to lift accuracy, reliability and adoption, using good judgement about what not to build.
What we’re looking for
3–6 years of software engineering experience, ideally at a well-regarded startup, fast‑growing scale‑up or top tech company.
A strong engineer first. Specific languages matter less than raw ability. Python plus some frontend counts as full‑stack; pure frontend profiles aren’t a fit.
A track record of shipping hard things to real users. Software that ran in production, broke and got fixed, not prototypes.
Customer‑ready. Personable, credible and confident in front of enterprise clients. Prior forward‑deployed experience isn't essential if you're a strong engineer who's comfortable with customers.
Builder mindset. You want to build from the ground up and take real ownership.
Bonus points if you've been a founder or on a founding team, worked as an early engineer at an EF, YC or Antler startup, or held a forward‑deployed or solutions engineering role.
Tech stack: TypeScript, Python, React, Node.js, SQL, LLMs, document intelligence, cloud infrastructure.
Package and practicalities
Equity: real equity in a company on a steep growth curve, with regular refreshers. Grant size is set at offer stage based on seniority and impact.
