Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Power BI Developer / Analyst to join a growing central Data Insights team, playing a key role in delivering a council-wide data strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how data is used across a large public sector organisation, rolling out impactful Power BI dashboards that help drive better services and outcomes for residents. You will sit within the corporate insight team and be part of a wider networked analytical community, working across multiple service areas and with a broad range of stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Analytics & Insight
- Lead the development of dashboards for specific service areas, defining key metrics and building accurate, performant calculations and measures across large datasets.
- Set up data ingestion processes from a variety of sources and perform transformations using Power Query, M‑code and DAX.
- Design and optimise navigation features in Power BI to guide users through clear, compelling data stories.
- Collaborate with data engineers to produce documentation and SQL scripts for data transformation.
- Create insightful, interactive and visually engaging reporting solutions.
- Manage dashboards, data sources, security, schedules, extracts and workspaces.
- Work with data within an Azure data platform.
- Training & Upskilling
- Support the wider data analyst community with Power BI dashboard development.
- Manage Power BI forums for developers and analysts.
- Set and maintain best practice standards for dashboard development.
- Develop and disseminate quality assurance procedures across the analytical community.
- Provide technical support and guidance to new Power BI users.
- Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Gather and document analytical requirements from a range of stakeholders and validate data prior to visualisation to ensure accuracy and trust in outputs.
- Champion data visualisation and the wider data platform across the organisation, promoting automation and resident value.
- Work effectively with senior management across multiple departments.
- Data Governance & Compliance
- Develop reports and dashboards that are fully GDPR and Data Protection compliant.
- Work with Information Governance colleagues to ensure dashboards are deployed with appropriate access controls and aligned with organisational policies.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Significant experience of Power BI, including end‑to‑end reporting and deployment, preferably in a public sector setting.
- Proven track record of designing and delivering Power BI dashboards.
- Solid data modelling capabilities within Power BI.
- Fluency in DAX and strong SQL query writing skills.
- Professional Power BI certification (e.g., PL‑300: Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst).
- Experience of WCAG 2.1/2.2 accessibility compliance in reporting.
- Strong stakeholder management and requirements‑gathering skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving ability.
- Experience managing projects, prioritising workloads and meeting tight deadlines.
- Sound knowledge of information governance and data security best practice.
