The Senior Technical Pricing Manager is responsible for leading the development and advancement of pricing models, data assets, and analytical capability. The role focuses on delivering robust, data-driven pricing through advanced statistical and machine learning techniques, ensuring models are predictive, scalable, and aligned to regulatory requirements.
This position combines deep technical expertise with strategic oversight, owning the end-to-end pricing model lifecycle while driving continuous improvement in pricing infrastructure, tools, and methodologies. The role also ensures that technical insights are translated into actionable pricing strategies that support profitability and sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design, development, validation, and deployment of advanced pricing models (e.g. GLMs, GAMs, machine learning models).
- Own the full pricing model lifecycle including data sourcing, feature engineering, model build, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
- Drive continuous improvement in pricing capability through enhanced modelling techniques, automation, and modern data science practices.
- Develop and maintain pricing data pipelines, tools, and infrastructure in collaboration with data and technology teams.
- Perform deep-dive analysis on pricing performance, including loss ratio, rate adequacy, and portfolio profitability.
- Conduct model validation and governance, ensuring models are robust, explainable, and compliant with regulatory requirements (e.g. fair value, non-discrimination).
- Establish monitoring frameworks to track model performance and trigger recalibration where required.
- Support business planning and forecasting through scenario modelling and predictive analytics.
- Provide technical oversight and challenge to third-party pricing providers and delegated authority partners.
- Translate complex analytical outputs into clear, commercially relevant insights for senior stakeholders and committees.
- Lead and develop technical pricing talent, embedding best practice in modelling, coding, and analytical thinking.
- Strong experience in insurance pricing (personal and/or commercial lines) with hands-on model development.
- Advanced knowledge of statistical modelling techniques (e.g. GLMs) and machine learning methods (e.g. gradient boosting, random forests).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or similar.
- Experience with data manipulation, feature engineering, and working with large datasets.
- Understanding of pricing optimisation, demand modelling, and portfolio segmentation (desirable).
