Internal Reporting Manager – Financial Control & Transformation
Location: Hybrid – Near Gatwick, West Sussex (2 days per week in the office)
Permanent - Full Time
An opportunity to lead, improve and transform a growing finance function.
We are recruiting for an experienced Internal Reporting Manager to join a growing insurance group at an exciting stage of its development.
This is an opportunity for a strong financial control leader who enjoys more than simply delivering the numbers. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the month-end close, develop a high-performing team and drive meaningful improvements across systems, processes and financial controls. The business has experienced significant growth and is investing in its finance infrastructure to support its next phase. You'll have the opportunity to challenge existing ways of working, introduce greater automation and build a more efficient, scalable finance function.
The Role
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you'll lead a management accounting function of approximately eight people, taking responsibility for the delivery of accurate, timely and controlled monthly financial results across multiple legal entities.
Alongside overseeing the day-to-day accounting function, you'll play a key role in modernising processes, strengthening controls and reducing reliance on manual activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Financial Close & Management Accounts: Lead the month-end close process, ensuring accurate management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, consolidations and appropriate accounting controls.
- People Leadership: Lead, coach and develop a team of approximately eight accountants, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Process Improvement & Automation: Identify opportunities to simplify processes, eliminate inefficiencies and use technology to reduce manual activities.
- Financial Systems: Drive improvements to existing finance systems and contribute to system enhancements, integrations and transformation projects.
- Financial Controls & Governance: Maintain a robust control environment, ensuring appropriate reconciliations, approvals, audit trails and financial governance.
- Insurance Accounting: Oversee relevant reinsurance accounting, reconciliations and settlements, ensuring accurate financial records and effective controls.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with FP&A, Actuarial, Financial Reporting, Technology and other business teams to ensure accurate financial information and efficient processes.
- Audit Support: Support internal and external audits, helping to improve audit readiness and strengthen the overall control environment.
About You
We're looking for an experienced finance leader who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with a practical, improvement-focused approach. Insurance experience would be particularly valuable, especially knowledge of insurance accounting, reinsurance or financial controls within a regulated environment.
However, we're equally interested in hearing from strong Financial Controllers, Heads of Management Accounts or senior finance leaders from other complex, high-volume businesses who can demonstrate relevant financial close leadership and transformation experience.
Knowledge of UK GAAP and FRS 102/103 would be advantageous.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
- Significant experience leading month-end close and management accounting processes.
- Strong financial control experience, including balance sheet reconciliations and multi-entity reporting.
- Proven experience managing, coaching and developing accounting teams.
- A track record of improving finance processes, introducing automation or delivering finance systems transformation.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge existing processes and influence change.
- Experience working in a complex, fast-paced or changing organisation.
- A proactive, hands‑on approach and the ability to balance operational delivery with longer‑term improvements.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This isn't simply a role focused on maintaining an existing reporting process.
You'll be joining a business that is growing and evolving, with the opportunity to make a genuine impact on how its finance function operates.
You'll have the scope to:
- Shape and develop an established accounting team.
- Improve the quality and efficiency of the month-end close.
- Introduce smarter processes, systems and automation.
- Strengthen financial controls and governance.
- Support the development of a scalable finance function as the business continues to grow.
If you're a Financial Controller, Head of Management Accounts or experienced finance leader who enjoys building, improving and transforming rather than simply maintaining, we'd love to hear from you.
