Main purpose of job
The Technical Lead is a senior claims specialist responsible for delivering high-impact technical leadership, client advocacy, and strategic claims outcomes across complex casualty, property, motor and specialty claims.

Key Accountabilities

  • Technical Claims Leadership
    • Lead handling of high-value, complex claims, providing technical direction and oversight.
    • Interpret policy coverage, liability, and quantum with precision to drive optimal claim outcomes.
    • Establish and implement claims strategies, including litigation management where required.
    • Act as escalation point for technically challenging or contentious claims.
  • Client Advisory & Relationship Management
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to key clients, providing proactive and strategic claims guidance.
    • Attend client sites and critical incidents, supporting from day one of a claim event.
    • Support client presentations, renewals, and tenders through demonstrating claims value.
  • Negotiation & Market Engagement
    • Lead complex negotiations with insurers, loss adjusters, and legal representatives.
    • Proactively drive early coverage agreement and efficient settlement strategies.
    • Leverage market relationships to improve outcomes on difficult or sensitive claims.
    • Challenge insurer and supplier performance where required.
  • Claims Performance & Insight
    • Analyse claims data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
    • Provide meaningful, insight-led MI to clients and internal stakeholders.
    • Contribute to development of claims propositions and service enhancements.
    • Support embedding of data-driven decision making within the Claims team.
  • Leadership, Coaching & Capability Development
    • Act as a mentor and technical coach to colleagues across the Claims function.
    • Raise overall team capability through knowledge sharing and case reviews.
    • Contribute to technical frameworks, standards, and best practices.
    • Support succession planning and talent development within the team.
  • Operational Excellence & Governance
    • Ensure claims are managed in line with agreed service standards, SLAs, and KPIs.
    • Maintain strong compliance with FCA requirements, internal policies, and Consumer Duty principles.
    • Ensure accurate and timely use of systems (including Acturis) and data recording.
    • Maintain strong control of costs, leakage, and supplier performance.
  • Collaboration & Business Contribution
    • Work cross-functionally with broking, risk, and other departments to deliver integrated client solutions.
    • Contribute to business strategy, client retention initiatives, and growth opportunities.
    • Represent Claims in internal committees, projects, and strategic initiatives.
