Job Purpose Summary
We are seeking an ambitious and commercially minded Junior Business Development Manager to support the growth of our specialist property lending business.
This opportunity is ideally suited to an individual in the early stages of their career, typically with around 1-3 years' experience following academia / commercial experience in finance, who is looking to build a long-term career within property finance, structured lending and business development.
Working closely with senior Relationship Managers and Lending colleagues, you will help identify, analyse and structure lending opportunities across bridging finance, specialist buy-to-let, refurbishment, development and investment property transactions.
The successful candidate will possess a strong academic or hands on commercial experience in Finance, Banking, Economics, Real Estate, combined with a genuine interest in structured finance and how lending solutions are designed to meet borrower requirements.
This role offers exposure to the full lending lifecycle, from initial enquiry and opportunity assessment through to deal structuring and handover for formal underwriting and completion. It represents an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys financial analysis, relationship building and developing creative lending solutions within a growing specialist lender.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Support the origination of new specialist property lending opportunities through brokers, introducers, developers, investors and professional networks.
- Assist with the assessment of lending opportunities, including borrower profile, project viability, security quality and exit strategy.
- Gather and analyse transaction information to support the structuring of lending proposals.
- Develop an understanding of loan structures, pricing, risk considerations and lending metrics.
- Work closely with Relationship Managers, Credit and Lending teams to assess opportunities before formal application.
- Prepare lending summaries, transaction overviews and indicative proposals for internal review.
- Support the development of broker and introducer relationships through regular engagement and follow-up activity.
- Maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities through effective use of internal systems and reporting tools.
- Assist with market research, competitor analysis and business development initiatives.
- Attend industry events, networking functions and broker meetings alongside senior colleagues.
- Ensure all activity is conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements, internal policies and lending standards.
- Support the handover of qualified opportunities to the Relationship Management team for execution and completion.
Key Skills & Experience
- Degree educated in Finance, Banking, Economics, Real Estate, Accounting or a related discipline OR hands on commercial experience ein finance / good head for numbers and demonstrable ability to produce creative lending solutions
- Approximately 1-3 years' experience within banking, lending, property finance, structured finance, commercial finance or a related financial services environment.
- Understanding of lending principles and how lending structures are designed to support borrower requirements.
- Knowledge of property finance products such as bridging, buy-to-let, development, refurbishment or commercial lending.
- Interest in structured finance and the ability to think creatively when considering lending solutions.
- Understanding of concepts such as senior debt, mezzanine finance, leverage, security structures and transaction risk.
- Strong financial literacy and analytical capability.
- Ability to interpret financial information and assess transaction fundamentals.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- High levels of commercial curiosity and a desire to build a career within specialist lending.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Exposure to structured finance, leveraged finance, real estate finance, commercial lending or credit analysis.
- Experience preparing lending papers, transaction summaries or credit applications.
- Understanding of financial modelling, cash flow analysis and lending metrics such as LTV and debt serviceability.
- Experience within a bank, challenger bank, specialist lender, advisory firm, debt advisory business or property finance environment.
- Experience working with brokers, intermediaries, property investors or lending teams.
