Veritas Education is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to fill several roles that have become available in the Pontefract area and the surrounding region. The ideal candidate will work closely with the teacher and pupils to provide tailored support to students with a range of Special Educational Needs and complex needs. These roles are available on both a part-time and full-time basis.

The Role * Supporting a class of between 6 to 10 pupils, assisting the teacher with supporting the students in the class.

  • Assisting the class teacher in planning and delivering personalised material and learning activities.

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with a tailored approach.

  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional, and communication skills.

  • Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to the teacher.

  • Helping the class teacher manage classroom behaviour to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.

Ideal Candidate * Experience working with children with special educational needs (preferably in an educational setting but not essential).

  • A strong understanding of SEN and techniques to manage a variety of students’ needs.

  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour using a range of behaviour management techniques.

  • Ability to understand and respond to students’ physical and emotional needs.
