An OFSTED good school in Wandsworth is looking for a teaching assistant to start as soon as possible for the spring term, with the view to work for the rest of the academic year and go permanent for the right teaching assistant in July. As a teaching assistant, you will be joining a highly talented team of staff, governors, and families at the school who ensure that it is a very special place to be. Your responsibility is simple: to deliver the school vision each day. Teaching assistants with experience will be considered or recent graduates who would like to gain experience in education as a teaching assistant.
Main duties and responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant:
- Teaching Assistant support for Pupils:
- Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader
- Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
- Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
- Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
- Teaching Assistant Support for Teachers:
- Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils' work
- Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
- Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be
Qualifications needed as a Teaching Assistant:
- Essential:
- Good literacy skills - GCSE Grade C or above in English Language; Level 2 English or above; or equivalent
- Good numeracy skills - GCSE Grade C or above in Maths; Level 2 Maths or above; or equivalent
- Desirable for a teaching assistant:
- An honours degree (preferably Upper Second) or equivalent
