Veritas Education is recruiting an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students within a Secondary SEMH school in the Kingston area. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour management
  • Assist students with engagement in learning and classroom activities
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral and SEN teams
  • Build positive, consistent and trusting relationships with students
  • Support students during transitions and unstructured times

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Confidence managing and de‑escalating challenging behaviour
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Background in education, care, youth work or similar is highly desirable
  • Strong commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
