An OFSTED good school in Roehampton is looking for a teaching assistant to start in September with the view to work for the entirety of the academic year and go permanent for the right teaching assistant in July 2027. As a teaching assistant, you will be joining a highly talented team of staff, governors and families at the school who ensure that it is a very special place to be. Teaching assistants with experience will be considered, as will recent graduates who would like to gain experience in education as a teaching assistant.

Main duties and responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant
  • Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader.
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
  • Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning.
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
Teaching Assistant Support for Teachers
  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupil's work.
  • Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals.
  • Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what your own support role will be.
Qualifications needed as a Teaching Assistant
  • Essential: Good literacy skills – GCSE Grade C or above in English Language; Level 2 English or above; or equivalent.
  • Good numeracy skills – GCSE Grade C or above in Maths; Level 2 Maths or above; or equivalent.
  • Desirable: An honours degree (preferably Upper Second) or equivalent.
