About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Phonics Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and welcoming primary school in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about early literacy and helping children build strong foundations in reading and writing. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers to deliver high-quality phonics support, both in small groups and on a 1:1 basis, helping pupils develop essential phonics skills and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of a structured phonics programme (e.g. Read Write Inc., Letters and Sounds, or similar)
  • Work with groups and individual pupils to improve phonics, reading, and early writing skills
  • Assist in identifying pupils who need additional support and adapt strategies accordingly
  • Help create an engaging and inclusive learning environment
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working in a primary school setting (preferably EYFS or KS1)
  • Strong understanding of phonics teaching approaches
  • A passion for supporting early reading development
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
