About the School

A well-established and highly supportive specialist school in Hemel Hempstead is seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teacher to join their team from September. The school caters for pupils aged 3-19 with severe and complex learning difficulties, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), speech and language needs, and sensory impairments.

SEN Teacher - Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons tailored to individual EHCP outcomes.
  • Support pupils with a range of complex SEN including ASD, SLD, PMLD, and communication needs.
  • Create a safe, positive, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress effectively.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals.
  • Promote independence, emotional wellbeing, and life skills development.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and personalised learning approaches.

SEN Teacher - Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience working within SEN, special schools, or inclusive educational settings.
  • Strong understanding of EHCPs and differentiated teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge of Autism, communication difficulties, sensory needs, and complex learning needs.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach.
  • ECTs with relevant SEN placement experience are encouraged to apply.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience using PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods.
  • Knowledge of sensory integration strategies.
  • Team Teach or positive behaviour support training.
  • Experience teaching pupils with severe or profound learning difficulties.
