About the School
A well-established and highly supportive specialist school in Hemel Hempstead is seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teacher to join their team from September. The school caters for pupils aged 3-19 with severe and complex learning difficulties, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), speech and language needs, and sensory impairments.

SEN Teacher - Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons tailored to individual EHCP outcomes.
- Support pupils with a range of complex SEN including ASD, SLD, PMLD, and communication needs.
- Create a safe, positive, and engaging classroom environment.
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress effectively.
- Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals.
- Promote independence, emotional wellbeing, and life skills development.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and personalised learning approaches.
SEN Teacher - Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience working within SEN, special schools, or inclusive educational settings.
- Strong understanding of EHCPs and differentiated teaching strategies.
- Knowledge of Autism, communication difficulties, sensory needs, and complex learning needs.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach.
- ECTs with relevant SEN placement experience are encouraged to apply.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience using PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods.
- Knowledge of sensory integration strategies.
- Team Teach or positive behaviour support training.
- Experience teaching pupils with severe or profound learning difficulties.
