Designated Safeguarding & Pastoral Lead – Royston Area, Hertfordshire We are seeking an experienced Designated Safeguarding & Pastoral Lead to join our leadership team in the Royston area. This is a rewarding role for a dedicated professional looking to make a positive impact in a specialist educational and care environment, supporting young people with complex learning and physical needs. Location: Near Royston, Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire border Contract: Full-time, Permanent (40 hours per week) Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum About the Role As the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), you will be responsible for managing safeguarding matters, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and students in both educational and residential settings. This role requires a strong leader with the experience and knowledge to guide safeguarding policies and pastoral care in line with statutory guidelines and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities: Oversee the safeguarding process, receiving and managing referrals and ensuring compliance with safeguarding policies and statutory guidelines Lead and develop site practices around behaviour management, attendance, and safeguarding, implementing policies effectively Provide behaviour and safeguarding training to staff and ensure consistent policy adherence across the team Communicate effectively with parents, carers, staff, and external agencies regarding the progress of students and intervention strategies Support Service Leads with strategic development in pastoral, wellbeing, and preparing for adulthood, contributing to policy review and formation Maintain strong compliance practices, conducting audits, and supporting during OFSTED and CQC inspectionsQualifications and Experience: DSL Level 3 training (or higher) and experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead GCSEs (or equivalent) in English & Maths Proven experience in developing pastoral interventions within a special needs environment Background in leadership within a residential setting (e.g., Children’s or Adult Care Home) is highly desirable Knowledge of ASD intervention strategies, such as TEACCH or Attention Autism Strong track record of translating policy into effective practice and managing complex situations If you are passionate about safeguarding and pastoral care and have the skills and experience to lead in this area, we encourage you to apply for this impactful role.
