Job Overview

We are looking for a passionate, creative and adaptable Art & Food Technology Teacher to join a supportive alternative provision school in North West London. The successful candidate will plan and deliver high‑quality Art and Food Technology lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, inspiring students to develop practical skills, creativity and confidence in a nurturing environment.

The school is a co‑educational alternative provision serving students aged 5 to 19 with a range of social, emotional and educational needs. The provision focuses on personalised learning, compassion, resilience and helping young people excel academically and personally. Staff work collaboratively to support students who may have struggled in mainstream settings, promoting a safe and inclusive culture for learning and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Art and Food Technology lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Develop schemes of work in line with the national curriculum and school priorities
  • Create inclusive, safe, practical learning environments in both art studio and food tech spaces
  • Assess, monitor and record student progress and provide timely feedback
  • Differentiating teaching to support students with varying abilities and needs, including SEMH profiles
  • Promote positive behaviour for learning, maintaining high expectations of conduct
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff and school leadership to enhance curriculum delivery
  • Contribute to departmental and whole‑school initiatives and events

Person Specification

Essential
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching Art and Food Technology at KS3 and KS4
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills
  • Ability to plan, assess and adapt lessons for a wide range of learners
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable
  • Experience teaching in an alternative provision, SEMH, or SEN setting
  • Relevant subject specialism or degree in Art, Design, Food Technology or related area
