Overview
1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary School. Start date: Beginning of March. Contract: Full-time, Term-time only. Location: Chorley. Salary: £13 - £16 PH.
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a primary-aged child with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and a range of behavioural needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a meaningful impact on a child’s learning, confidence, and daily school experience. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and wider staff team to provide tailored support that meets the pupil’s academic, social, and emotional needs. The role requires patience, creativity, and resilience, as well as the ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualised 1:1 support throughout the school day.
- Assist with implementing the child’s EHCP targets, behaviour plans, and personalised learning activities.
- Use positive behaviour strategies to help the child regulate emotions and remain engaged in learning.
- Deliver small, structured activities and scaffolding to promote progress.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and external professionals.
- Support the child during transitions, playtimes, and other unstructured periods.
- Record observations and contribute to reviews and progress meetings.
- Create a calm, safe, and supportive environment where the child can thrive.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, nurturing, and reliable, with a genuine interest in SEND.
- Experienced in working with children with SEND and/or behavioural needs (desired but not essential).
- Able to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with pupils and staff.
- Confident using behaviour management strategies.
- Flexible, proactive, and able to adapt to the child’s needs throughout the day.
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
