About the Role

We are looking for a committed and compassionate 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to join our friendly primary school team on a maternity cover contract starting after the Easter holidays. This role involves providing individualised support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them access learning, develop confidence, and thrive within the school environment. The ideal candidate will be patient, proactive, and passionate about making a positive difference to a child's day-to-day school experience.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 tailored support to a child with SEND throughout the school day.
  • Follow and help implement the pupil's EHCP targets and personalised learning plans.
  • Support behaviour regulation using positive, consistent strategies.
  • Work with the class teacher, SENCo, and wider team to ensure the child is fully included in learning.
  • Assist with small-group or individual activities to reinforce learning.
  • Provide support during transitions, playtimes, and unstructured moments.
  • Maintain accurate notes and contribute to progress discussions and review meetings.
  • Promote independence, emotional regulation, and confidence in the child's learning.

Person Specification

We are seeking someone who:

  • Is caring, patient, and genuinely enthusiastic about supporting children with SEND.
  • Has previous experience working with children with additional needs (desirable but not essential).
  • Uses positive behaviour management techniques confidently.
  • Can follow guidance while also using initiative.
  • Communicates well with staff, pupils, and parents.
  • Is reliable, flexible, and fully committed to the role.
  • Understands and upholds safeguarding procedures.
